Introduction

We spent the weekend with M/M Vino Me in South Haven Michigan. The drive up was highlighted by colorful fall foliage, a scenic route along the lakefront and stops at a few wineries. Dinner Saturday night centered on cabs ten years or older. Mrs. Vino Me made some very tasty mashed potatoes & green beans as sides for VM's perfectly grilled lamb chops (accompanied by Mrs. VM's rosemary-porcini jus). Thanks to M/M VM for hosting a wonderful weekend.

Flight 1 - Warm ups (2 Notes)

A couple of warm up whites served with a few cheeses and summer sausage. The Brunier was particularly nice- something to keep an eye open for.

Flight 2 - The reds (7 Notes)

Some very nice wines to pair with the lamb chops. All very nice.

  • 1987 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Deep color, with blackberry, plum and leather notes. Balanced, with dark fruit and tobacco tones. Not as deep or broad as the last bottle.

Flight 3 - Dessert (1 Note)

Served with apples and cheese, incuding a terrific blue-veined cheese that paired particularly well with the B-G.

  • 2000 Bott-Geyl Pinot Gris Sonnenglanz Sélection de Grains Nobles 95 Points

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

Had a chance to really follow this throughout the evening, and it really does well with plenty of air. Deep color with a copper edge. Aromas of baked apricot, marmalade and honey. Rich, viscous texture with tropical fruit, baked stone fruit and marmalade flavors. Long, long finish, with plenty of underlying acidity keeping it fresh and lively. Wonderful stuff.
