David Pope had spent several years assembling this vertical and generously shared them with 11 other wine-pages folk. Chevillon's consistency lends itself to the vertical format and so it proved this evening where, apart from the two corked bottles, everything was good or better and more than half were positively exciting. Common themes were red fruits and earth, and even the older vintages retained the fruit character, with relatively little in the way of secondary development. I think everyone present was very impressed with the wines, but there seemed to be little consensus on the relative merits of individual wines.
2004 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges Blanc 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Big, opulent, the fruit a bit tropical, a lick of oak, some almond paste lushness and a touch of sulphur adding bite - really delicious
