Tasting session held at a local retailer, hosted by Raul Perez, with the support of Rodrigo Mendez (Forjas del Salnés). Initially the planned tasting was 9 flights but surprisingly nice it was expanded to 14 wines.
The wines made by Raul are usually very small productions, that usually range between 500 and 1.500 bottles max, for the wines tasted, with the exception of the entry level Ultreia de Saint Jacques, that currently stands at 15.000 bottles. Much of these wines are sold out within weeks and are quite rare to find, specially for previous vintages. Obviously, it was a pleasure to be able to attent this session and enjoy Raul's outgoing character.
As you can notice, there are 12 tasting notes instead of 14. The two missing wines were "Rosa dos Ventos", a multi blend red (Madrid grenache, Mencía, Caiño, Prieto Picudo and Bastardo) and white (Caiño, treixadura, Godello from Bierzo, Albariño and Albarín), a small, charitable- purpose project.
2009 Raul Pérez Rías Baixas Sketch 90 Points
Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
P&P. 55 year old Vineyards located at 50 mts above sea level. Only 2 barrels (750 lts/each) produced. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, which are the same ever used to age this wine since the first time this was released back in 2002 (7 year old barrels).
Very clean and light color. On nose primarly herbaceous aromas. On palate shows high acidity, mineral, sweetness. Still very young (90-91).
