Barrel tasting at Domaine. Bright red fruit on nose, follows through to palate with a bit of black cherry as well. Very clean and elegant, comes across as very traditionally styled. From near Marsannay. We tasted from a new oak barrel, the final blend will be approximately 25% new oak.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Strong fruit aromas, big fruit on palate as well. Fruit balanced nicely by some firm structure right now. Very good length and power on finish. Never would have guessed this was a Villages level wine from Savigny.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Black fruit with lots of depth, some good spice towards middle and end. From two sites, mostly from Lavieres, which gives it that great NSG character with Vosne hints.
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Strawberry and raspberry with great floral charm and spice aromas, albeit some from oak today. Great fruit and spice on the palate as well. Powerful but elegant. From 5 parcels in Vosne, helping give this wine great nuance and complexity already.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Lots of spice and combination of red and black fruit. Very similar to the Vosne Villages wine but with a bit more spice and tannic backbone.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Floral to start with red and black cherry. Sweet fruit on palate, overt oak for right now, this is a big, dense wine that will most likely need lots of time to fully balance.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Barrel tasting at Domaine. Spice upfront followed by black cherry and raspberry on both nose and palate. Powerful fruit through long middle, then lots of baking spice re-emerge on the finish. Truly a sensational wine. Powerful, long and already balanced. It's interesting to see such a famous wine as Rouget's Cros Parantoux in barrel, in that these are from the same vines as Jayer's legendary vintages of Cros Parantoux, and there I was, standing within arm's length of all ten barrels of the wine.
