Introduction
Tasting of mainstream Cava from houses Freixenet and Cordorniu, with a few smaller producers thrown in for reference. Wines were served well chilled in keeping with tradition (about 6 degrees centigrades). Not blind.

Fleshy, broad, but lacking core. Not convinced about the style. If I wanted internationally styled sparkling wine I would go to Green Point and pay far less. Parker et al are wrong, but what do they know about Cava… 87 on quality but very low score on value.

I can just about tolerate the bottle design because the content is so good. Long and complex. Refined. A lot of things going on yet very pure in every aspect. Outstanding

I'm biased but this is what Cava is all about. Bone dry but very complex, long, perfumed. Tell-tale petroleum on the nose. Great value.
