Introduction

Tasting at Dickerson Distributors, informal setting with only quick notes taken.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Browne Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

Fruit Forward Cab that is a decent wine, but out matched at the tasting tonight. Easy drinker that won't require much aging.

  • 2007 DeLille Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Ciel

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain

Big, Tannic as hell, tightly wound wine ready to punch you in the face. We popped and poured which was a mistake, so threw it in the decanter and came back for more later. Has all the makings of an amazing wine, Red fruit and layers of flavors to many to remember. Give it 10 years and this will be a show stopper, if you have one don't even consdier opening it within the next few years, and if you must decant this for 4+ hours. In the end this is probably going to be the best wine here, but not there yet.

  • 2007 Cougar Crest Cabernet Franc

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley

Dark fruit flavors without any greeness. Perfectly balanced wine with an amazingly aromatic nose with wonderful layers of herbs. My #3 of the night, very popular with the whole group. Year in and year out one of my favorite, if not my favorite New World Cabernet Franc.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Bodega Catena Zapata Nicolás Catena Zapata

    Argentina, Mendoza

My wine of the night, without question. I was not formillar with this wine and I was blown away by it. Smooth, Dark and just beautiful wine. The fruit and the tannins were in perfect harmony. Cab/Malbec blend that was the single greatest Argentinian wine I have ever tried. This wine drinks perfectly now but has the stuffing to last another decade. I'd love to put this wine and the De Lille Grand Ciel next to each other in 10 years and see which comes out on top.

  • 2006 Annika Vineyards Syrah

USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Livermore Valley

Surprisingly not big, which is a good thing in my book. Wonderfully balanced Syrah. Good depth of flavor, but only an alright QPR.
