Introduction

Our Chicago burgundy-focused tasting group, the Lieu-dit Cru, went up to Northbrook to have dinner with Marc Dupin, Jadot's global sales director. A great opportunity to open some older bottles of Jadot from our respective cellars.

Flight 1 - Butternut Squash Soup (2 Notes)

  • 2000 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

Rich, lush stone fruit on nose with impressive complementary spice. Fruit and spice continue from nose on to palate with sharp minerality and acidity helping with length and textures toward long finish.

  • 2000 Louis Jadot Montrachet 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru

Lean fruit on nose with good floral component and good citrus aromas. Very elegant from start-to-finish with lemon, lemon peel supported by great minerality. While today I preferred the Jadot 2000 Chevalier-Montrachet les Demoiselles tasted alongside, this Montrachet might have greater long-term potential.

  • 1988 Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin 89 Points

Mostly earthy aromas. Palate has good balance of mushroom flavors with mature black fruit. Good harmony for 1988. Moderate length.

  • 1988 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Dark fruit with aromas of cinnamon and other baking spice. Black cherry and blackberry flavors with some still firm tannins. Very intense, long, spice-driven finish. Still getting better.

  • 1988 Louis Jadot Mazis-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

Nose showing lots of earth and spice with advancing black fruit. Black and red cherry on palate with good supporting acidity and tannins. Wonderful spice on finish. Another 1988 that is starting to show very well after a decade+ of providing little or no pleasure if opened.

  • 1996 Louis Jadot Richebourg 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

First time I can ever recall opening a (rarely seen) Jadot Richebourg. Spicy red cherry aromas. Red and black cherry on palate. Great structure in wonderful harmony with the fruit and spice. Impressive.

  • 2003 Louis Jadot Richebourg 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Ripe, rich black fruit on nose with good spice. Moderate black fruit on palate. Tough to assess vs. other Jadot 2003s which come across as powerful and complete, this seems shut down and compact already. Short finish, with a slightly tannic finish that gives a hint of bitterness.

  • 2000 Louis Jadot Musigny 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Floral, elegant start. Good black and red cherry on palate with moderate length. Finish shows a bit too much acid for right now, but should balance better in another few years.
