Introduction

A fun event with a great lineup of wines. We were joined by Assistant Winemaker John Wilson, who in addition to being very informative, was also a really nice guy. Only negative for the event was the smallish portions of food and the bizarre service from the staff at Tony's, who obviously are not accustomed to an event such as this.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2010 Littorai Lemon's Folly 88 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Off dry palate with ripe stone fruit, citrus, and sweet spices. Made for a decent aperitif, esp. with salty hors d'oeuvres. Doesn't really have the sweetness or weight to be a dessert wine. An improvement on the flabby and overly sweet 2009.

  • 2010 Littorai Chardonnay B. A. Thieriot Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Lemon, underripe nectarine and tons of minerals. Great acidity. Needs 2-3 years at least.

  • 2009 Littorai Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard 89 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

Black cherry, red currant, cola, and baking spice nose with some meaty, gamey notes. Pretty and delicate on the palate with black cherry and earthy minerals. Nice acid and fine, powdery tannins. With some air, the gamey notes blew off and some caramel and maple aromas became evident. Lost some cut and became a bit simpler on the palate as the night progressed. My least favorite Pinot of the night, but still not a bad effort. 89-90.

  • 2009 Littorai Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard 91 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

Concentrated nose of raspberry and pomegranate with violets, sous bois, and some whole cluster spice. Decent acidity and firm, fine tannins. With air, this began to close down and become frankly stemmy. I'd let this age for 5 or 6 years. Good potential. 91+

  • 2009 Littorai Pinot Noir The Pivot Vineyard 90 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Red currant, raspberry, and a hint of earthy funk that blew off with some air. I found this to have nice aromatics and a rich palate, but generally lacking in complexity. Good acidity and moderate tannins.

  • 2009 Littorai Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

This was showing some amazing complexity with blackberry, wild blueberry, violets, and spices, along with some soil notes. Elegant structure with great acidity. Continued to evolve in the glass without shutting down. Needs 2+ years. WOTN, 92+.
