Introduction

Many thanks to all for brings some precious bottles and the staff at the China Club who seemed unfazed with the amount of decanters on our table.

Flight 1 - Three nations of whites (3 Notes)

Riesling goes very well with chinese food

Flight 2 - Burgundy & Rhone (2 Notes)

A big debate about the Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle if it was flawed or not.

  • 2002 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Nose of red fruits with hints of strawberries.

Slightly hollow mid palate, medium to short length.

  • 1996 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

A lot of debate at the table on whether this wine was flawed or not and seeing by the tasting notes on Cellartracker a lot of people have the same experience. I think there is a lot of bottle variation with Paul Jaboulet and the '96 vintage seems to attract a lot of discussion especially.

For me the bottle was not flawed but it was very mature with a nose that only lasted about an hour and quite a mature claret palate.

Need to drink another bottle and see how it compares.

If you are holding drink up.

Flight 3 - Big deep reds (3 Notes)

The '96s are really drinking lovely at the moment.

Closing

The white wines stole the night for me, in particular the Kistler Chardonnay and the Schlossgut Diel Dorsheimer Goldloch Riesling which went really well with the chinese food.
