Tasting. Sensational nose of rich stone fruit - peach and apricot. Flavor was a bit more lean but with still big fruit and a good sense of minerality and acidity. Long evolving finish.
Barrel sample. Rich fruit, very ripe. Lots pf spice, chocolate and vanilla. Moderate length and tannins. Best as a young drinking wine for those who like the ultra ripe style 2003 demands. 88-90 points.
Tasting. 50% Cabernet, 24% Merlot, 26% Cab Franc. Rich fruit with alluring spicy aromas, hints of perfume. Evolving flavors showing dark berry, cocoa, coffee, licorice, clove. Better in another 2-5 years. Best of the three vintages of David tasted (1999-2001).
Tasting. 50% cabernet, 28% Merlot, 22% Cab Franc. Slightly floral start with plenty of oak, elegant black fruit. Balanced and well textured, best now through 2009.
Tasting. Rich, spiced and perfumed start. Blackberry and smoky cherry. Good length, very easy to enjoy today, even if slightly simple. Drink up by 2008 or so.
Tasting. Big velvety fruit, certainly very "Merlot" in character. Blackberry, black and red currants. Soft fruit, soft tannins. Moderate intensity and length. Others liked this far more than I did tonight.
USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Pre-release tasting. Youthful, exuberant aromas. Rich blackberry flavors with moderate, even lightly sweet tannins plus moderate sweet spice. Best on the young side, 2006-2012.
Barrel sample. Dense black fruit all the way through start-to-finish, structured enough to support the fruit's incredible ripe/roasted character. Good spice from middle to finish. Big tannins, but elegant. Strongly referred this to the 2003 Dr. Crane. 90-93 point potential.
Barrel sample. My favorite of the lineup. Rich fruit, ripe but no signs of it being roasted. Great spice on nose and palate. Good structure, good acidity, so good textures. Long finish with sweet elements. 91-94 point potential.
USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Tasting. Bold aromas of black fruit with hints of earth and forest, showcasing the 5% Cabernet Franc nicely. Rich on palate with very good spice all the way through. Balanced already but good, firm tannins indicate ageworthiness.
