Introduction

Mike Bittel, (Sunset Corners) hosted a dinner for Bernard Magrez featuring 7 of his wines from around the globe. Michel Rolland consults on all his wines.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2004 Château Fombrauge Blanc 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux

Delicious highly acidic (St Emillon) blanc. The Sauvignon gris is a new grape to me, and combined with the Muscadelle creates a distinctive high acid white that paired well with Chilean Sea Bass in court boullion.(The principal grapes are Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon).

  • 2003 Magrez Tivoli 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc

A delicious balanced wine that is drinking beautifully now, and promises to evolve well. A good nose, flavorfull with an excellent finish. I liked it almost as much as the 03 Pape Clement.

  • 2004 Château Perenne 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux

Slight brett, which mostly dissapated. A $25 retail bottle which drank very well vs its much pricier brethren. I liked all the wines in the 1st flight.

  • 2004 Bernard Magrez Cabernet Sauvignon Thorevilos 95 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

David Abreu provided the fruit, and Michel Rolland consulted on the picking and elevage. This is amazingly approachable, and should gain cult staus. I believe the 12 of us at dinner all thought it was the WOTN, outshining even the 03 Pape Clement . Mike ordered 15 cs, which he could have sold at the dinner table. Reminds me of Opus One, but only better. Only 2000 bottles were produced, and won't be in the market for a month or two.A world class wine.
