Quality is acceptable, but this doesn't have a lot of merlot typicity.

  • 2008 Liparita Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District Flawed

USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District

Tasted blind. Clear, medium+ ruby, tending to purple. Nose is slightly volitile, with medium+ aromas of ripe, confected red fruit, mint, vanilla, and a whiff of something medicinal. Palate is dry, medium+ acid, medium tannin, medium body, with flavours of sweetish red currant and cherries, mint, green tea. Finish is medium. Hard to assess quality, as this seem to be borderline flawed... almost cough-syrupy. I hope this is not typical of all 2008 Liparita Stag's Leap cabs.

  • 2007 Laughing Stock Vineyards Portfolio

    Canada, British Columbia, Okanagan Valley

Tasted blind. Clear, medium ruby, tending to purple. Clean nose with medium+ aromas of black currant, bell pepper, spice, chocolate, coffee grounds. Palate is dry, medium acid, medium tannin, medium body, with flavours of sweet black currant, cedar, chocolate, and a slightly minty/herbal note. Texture is very smooth, and finish is medium+. Good to very good quality here, as long as you don't mind a little bell pepper in your Bordeaux blend.
