Jadot Dinner with Friends

Casual dinner with a few of my Burg friends, focusing on the wines of one of our group's favorite producers, Louis Jadot, mostly the Domaine produced wines.

• 1999 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 94 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

  Floral start with apple and pear aromas, modest sweet spice. Same fruit profile on palate with great density and power. great acidity, minerality and textures all the way through. Great finesse, great finish. While this hasn't consistently been a great wine, this was another amazing bottle from this particular great case (prob the 5th or 6th great bottle).

• 2008 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 94 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

  Incredibly alluring perfumed start with lots of lush stone fruit, plenty of new oak spice. Lush and very ripe peach on palate, with some tropical fruit hints, coming across as long and powerful. Very enticing today, I expect this will drink very well through its early and middle years.

  Earthy aromas wit plenty of robust black fruit. Great meaty spice as well on both nose and palate. Elegant wine overall, this is at a great place right now, and for the next 5+ years.

  Lots of black fruit, very backward aromas, also backward on palate today. Seems shut down and just barely accessible today, with good potential, but not as interesting as the 1996 vintage in the next glass.

  Best showing I've ever had for this great wine. Red and black cherry aromas with great meaty spice. Incredible balance with lots of everything you hope for in Grand Cru Burgundy, everything in great balance. Sensational structure and textures for a 1997.

  Ultra ripe plum and blackberry aromas with big, fat spice. Lush and forward fruit on palate, similarly dark fruit, coming across as fat and almost slutty to start, but more balanced and well textured from middle to finish. This had been open approx 3 hours, of which perhaps 1/2 hour was in decanter.

  Plenty of black fruit aromas with lots of density and intensity. just not forthcoming today. Similar in many ways to the Jadot 1999 CSJ from earlier tonight but with greater power and concentration. Easier to intellectually appreciate right now than easily enjoy, this had very good potential in another deacde+.

  Ripe black cherry aromas, flavors. Very good fruit, but not well balanced, not completely pristine, showing too much barnyard for a Grand Cru this young.

  First time ever trying this wine. Lean styled red fruit aromas, modest spice. Good red fruit again on palate, very balanced but a little simple an done dimensional for RSV. At its peak today.
