Popped and poured. Mature fruit aromas, showing ripe apple and some apricot. Slightly more fresh on palate, same fruit profile with good length and energy at finish. Better with more air.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Bottles haven't been consistent over the past few years, but this was certainly one of the good bottles. Lush and sweet stone fruit aromas, Lots of power and rounded fruit flavors on palate. Slightly more mature than a great magnum I opened last summer, but this almost as good and kept picking up intensity with more time in glass.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Slightly subdued to start, not very forthcoming. Apple and pear flavors with incredibly energy and minerality. Long, lean and incredibly well textured, this wine kept changing over the evening with varied degrees of orchard fruit and citrus showing at various times. Very intriguing and exciting.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Library release from last year. Blackberry aromas with great spice and floral undertones. Power and intensity on palate with a great combination of fruit, structure and spice. Still youthful with great balance and persistence.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Bottle in great condition. Decanted before serving. Plum, cassis, forest floor aromas. Similar on palate with a bit of animale character that really showcases the Cab Franc nicely. Fresh for its age with good spice emerging nicely on finish.
Rustic, horsey start with plenty of black pepper. Dense blackberry and plum flavors with good depth, good spice and a real classic, rustic character start-to-finish. Much better than I remember from when I last tasted, approx a decade ago.
