Flight 1 - WHITE WINES (2 Notes)

  • 2002 Veritas Vineyard Viognier 92 Points

    USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello

    (4/30/2013)

Color Greenish Gold. Legs medium. Lemon, Lime, Peach and Honeysuckle notes. Jerry's White. It seeme like Viognier to me.
As Jerry noted, none could ID it's whereabouts, as we hadn't experienced wines from VIRGINIA before. Ver impressive.

  • 1982 Château Cheval Blanc 98 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    (4/30/2013)

Jerry's wine. On tasting my observation that Jerry was once again GRACING US with his beloved 82 Cheval Blanc. The Group's WOTN.
Garnet color, with slow forming legs. Fortunately followed it's younger 98 sibling. Higly prefumed Classic Cab Franc herbaceouness, with Blackberry, cedar, tobacco, and lead pencil notes. A brillant wine with a long finish. It should soon rival the heralded 47!

  • 1982 Château Mouton Rothschild 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    (4/30/2013)

Barry's wine(the label was barely recognizable). The Group's Runner-up as WOTN(I didn't care for it, and much preferred it at the beginning of its maturity, at ages 10-15. I had a case, and sold my last bottle about 5 years ago.) Garnet color, with slow legs. Paulliac barnyard notes, with classic cassis, dark berry, tobacco, and lead pencil flavors. Smooth witn an extended finish.

    (4/30/2013)

Alvaro's wine. Garnet color. Slow legs. Cassis, Eucalyptus, dark berry, tobacco, and graphite minerality. Brilliant with an extended finish. My WOTN.
I have always loved Haut Brion White or Red.
The 61 HAUT BRION BLANC is one of the 10 best wines I have had over the past 43 years. It had a mesmerizing complex floral bouquet and flavor.

    (4/30/2013)

Alvaro's Yquem(Thank you!) Unmistakeable Yquem. Perhaps infanticide, but I loved it(Have 2 bottles of the 2001, which are earmarked for my son's 50th in seven years, and my 11 year old Grandson's 50th in 2051, when I will be 111, God Willing).
Gold color with slowww legs. Delicious sweet Apricot jam flavors with superb tense acidity. A brilliant wine with a lingering finish!

Closing

AN EXCESS OF RICHES. Amazingly there was little barnyard brett, which I have noted in old Paulliac's. I asked the group what was the youngest Vintage they owned, and it seemed to be 2000. With most being sellers now, rather than buyers at today's stratospheric prices. The only 1st Growths we didn't have were Latour, and Petrus.
