Base neck. Color still quite good, light but all ruby red. Decanted an hour. Attacking nose, the quality really comes at you. Cassis the first thing there but loads of dark fruit with a tiny bit of cedar. Really get the class on the palate and an amazing soft mouthfeel. This has aged beautifully. I can't help but think this vintage has been underrated.
My first aged First Growth enjoyed with my wife on 32nd Anniversary. Nice cork come out whole with Ahso and decanted about 30 minutes. Nice ruby garnet color with dark fruit and smooth mouthfeel but seemed a bit short finish. As Tinybubbles said hope this was just bottle variation that didn't quite live up to what I expected. Have a few more so will see.
Still wonderful. I decanted about 20 minutes before we started to drink it. It held up well for over two hours. Wonderful bottle bouquet of cedar, black stonefruit, and flowers. Very soft, non-intrusive tannins. Finish is pleasant and medium long.
Deep, dark reddish-purple garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Fragrant, aromatic & complex nose of ripe dark fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & cassis, with classic overtones of cigar box notes of cedar & tobacco & floral notes of violets, spices, herbal, earthy/dusty, truffles, leather, olives & a hint of eucalyptus/mint. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & silky smooth texture of elegant & refined, complex, rich, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blueberries & cranberries, earthy, spices, mushrooms, mocha, herbs & minerals. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and may hold at this plateau for several more years although I doubt it would develop significantly further.
