Flight 1 - To begin (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett 87 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Lovely aromatic nose, light harmonious. Petrolly notes of course and a nice ripe fruit feel. Pare notes, light lemon on the palate. A few "harsh" notes however on the palate, light bitter feel especially on the finish spoil the harmony and flow of the wine. Quite a bit of acidity. Effectively this out of balance acid, bitter feel spoils the ever light, dancing on the palate feel that we look in a cabinet. 87

  • 2000 Dom Pérignon Champagne 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Ah finally a good bottle! Dissapointing to be honest to have had so many misses on a 2000 DP. But Anyhow..
Colour shows some age but its the nose that is so captivating here, rich, ripe long yeasty, toasty notes across. On th epalate it carries the on the tune and actually feels a lot older than a 2000. A beautiful bottle great to be enjoyed now. 94 easy

Flight 2 - Earth (2 Notes)

Quail eggs with black truffle
Fois Gras, two ways

  • 1990 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Oh my what a lovely wine. Good label, cork and in neck level. No decanting here.
Good bricking notes on the colour front. Shows its age.Earthy, mashrooms, forest floor on the nose. Secondary and boyond aromas yet the fruit is still there, albeit playing second violin. On the palate it is round and smooth with a lovely balance and it is just a sheer joy. Very very good wine. The only question here is ... why did we buy just 2 bottles. 94 and drinks just fine now, and few more years to go.

  • 1990 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

A much better bottle than the previous one. Guess at this age the saying no good wines but only good bottles holds..
This wine is so much alive and punchy. Especially compared with the 1990 Serafin Gevrey we had just before which was in its old age. This was full of energy, firm tannin on the palate and an open nose. Fine the earthy, secocondary notes were there but still the fruit was there , no dryness or bitterness in this bottle either. Pretty solid performance. 92-93

Flight 3 - Beef Wellington with smoky potato/sweet poato mash (1 Note)

  • 1999 Tertre Rôteboeuf 95 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Decanted for 1.5 hrs and needs some decanting for sure to help develop the palate. The nose is singing from the pop of the cork, but it does need some time in a decanter to develop on the palate and loose some of its edge that it present at start.
Dark red in colour. Glossy youthfull. The nose is full of rich fruit. No overpowering oak here just richness of fruit, elegant and long. Touch floral. On the palate it is well round, with silky tannin. Very much alive but also in a beautiful balance. Rich and full bodied yet with a softness. Once again a beautiful wine. 95 easy

Flight 4 - Cheese, desert and all the Jazz. (1 Note)

  • 1991 ETKO Centurion 89 Points

    Cyprus, Commandaria

Traditional style of commandaria ( Commandaria according to RP is the oldest continuously made wine style) here.
Requires decanting to develop and we did so for like 6 hours. The nose is rich, light port style, sweet fruit, typical of all fortified wines made with sundried grapes. On the palate it is smooth, round and full of sweet rich fruit. Rustic style and although nice lacks elegance and complexity. For a better expression of this style of wine try ANAMA. 88-90
