France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Dark berries, some brambly forest, herbal notes on the nose. Medium-plus body. Dark cassis. Not at all a typical Chambolle; no softness, big, dark, ripe; a little bit of strange funky quality on the nose.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Very unique, exotic nose; some sweetness on the attack along with pretty red fruit. Fairly polarizing wine. I was in the "something strange about this" camp.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny
Very pretty, with both red fruit and herbal elements. Silky mouthfeel and excellent structure. Yummy! Somewhat austere due to youth and quite primary. Very nice! Give it some time.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
See Salil's note. My third bottle, all showing very well. Capsule showed a bit of corrosion, but wine was in great shape. Probably at its peak, but no hurry to drink.
Followed the Beaucastel, and took a few seconds to wrap my mind around this. I stopped taking notes about ten seconds after tasting it and just wrote "yummy!!!!" over and over again, though with varying numbers of exclamation marks. Also, a few check marks and some feverish underlining.
Every kind of tropical fruit with several varieties of citrus and some spiciness wrapped in a precise attack of acid and minerals. Finish of approximately 708 seconds, give or take a day. Did I mention "yum!!!"
A very simple, yummy, but not transcendental wine. What I would hope for from an over-performing Wednesday-night cheapie to accompany takeout. Since it was neither Wednesday nor very cheap, it is disappointing.
Here, I disagreed with most of my table mates. I found it overly flabby, thick, and syrupy, with rich stone fruit (apricot, peach) but without the balance or precision I would have hope for.
Deep, dark brown. Whoa! Very yummy, with *extremely* high, crazy, bracing acid balanced by rich syrupy (pruney) sweetness. Very yummy. Actually, the acid is not balanced -- this much acid *cannot* be balanced. There is nothing quite sweet enough to balance it known to man. The acid doesn't want to be "balanced." It wants to grab you by the collar and slap you around a bit. A lot. But damn good.

Amazing freshness and lightness; floral, orange, sea salt, light brine; excellent balance; good length.

Very pretty but reserved nose. Nice acidity framing a bit of sweet oak. Light and pretty. Quite good.

Rich, spicy palate of stone fruit (apricot), mineral, and perhaps a bit of petrol. Medium acidity, medium body but quite lithe. Yum!
