Brief Notes from Grand Sichuan: Here, I disagreed with most of my table mates. I found it overly flabby, thick, and syrupy, with rich stone fruit (apricot, peach) but without the balance or precision I would have hope for.

Another treat from Salil: one of my favorite cuvees from the HGS years. The first time I have had the 94. Out of 375ml of course. Medium brown-orange. Spicy nose with marmalade and apricot. I took some home and got a full note - the nose had opened quite a bit and was really shining with a heartbreaking floral-herbal-tea aspect. The palate and finish were good, but not as good as the nose. High acid with tart citrus an tea, marmalade and apricots. Maybe a touch hollow on the finish compared to the other components. Nose - 6/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

Not on the same level as a bottle I enjoyed a couple of years ago; it has some of the smoky, spicy Rieslaner notes around ripe tropical fruit and honey, but it doesn't show the level of cut, depth or length I recall.

Opaque and cloudy, very sweet and sirupy, but tempered by searing acidity. Fantastically balanced and long, this is one of the best Auslesen of my life. A real treat, will probably still improve for years, if not decades.

Celebrations on Lake Como - Georgs Night: Pink grapefruit, bitter, extremely intense acidity, very long but lacking harmony
