Tart pear, tart green apple, some almond and yeasty notes, a little mineral and great acidity. Has those chenin notes that I have a hard time describing. Fine bubbles. Delicious. I hope I can get more.
When first poured I thought this was too oaky. Aromas of oak, creme brulee and citrus fruit that follow through on the palate. As it opened though the oak seemed to fade into the background leaving tart lemon/lime fruit, a little creamy texture and good acidity. Pretty good but Ann enjoyed it more than me.
Ripe dark fruits, a little tobacco, some spice, slight mint, very soft and silky. No tannins left but still some good fruit and acidity. Smells great. Based on this bottle I would drink 'em if you've got 'em.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this from the nose. At first it has that nutty/coffee smell (almost hazelnut) that some Aussie shiraz's have that I don't prefer. It blew off leaving dark fruit, a little shoe polish, slight eucyliptus. The nose doesn't prepare you for what's coming. The fruit is a mix of red and black/blue but its pretty tart and there is a lot more acidity than I was expecting. It is a big wine but also not as lush as you might expect. Some chocolate and coffee, and lots of structure. You don't notice any alc. but I was surprised to see this at only 13.8%. Overall not extremely complex but I enjoyed it more than I expected to and I appreciated the levels of ripeness and alc.
