Introduction

Visiting Arizona in July isn't the best idea in the world, but I made a good time out of it anyway.

Flight 1 - Page Springs Cellars White Tasting (5 Notes)

I love visiting this place. It's in a gorgeous spot and the wines are reliable and unique. The tasting staff was a bit overwhelmed by all the people visiting during the holiday weekend, but it was still a really fun time. It was hot as hell out, so I tasted through their white wines.

  • 2010 Page Springs Cellars Viognier Arizona Stronghold Vineyard 87 Points

    USA, Arizona

Aromas of melon, chalk and toffee. Lots of pineapple, melon rind and yellow apple on the palate, along with some chalk, wax and honey notes. A really solid Viognier that's aged in acacia wood.

  • 2010 Page Springs Cellars La Serrana 88 Points

    USA, Arizona

Page Springs has done something special with this 50/50 Viognier/Roussanne blend. Interesting nose of melon, lemon, honey and wax. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, but fresh acid keeps it from being goopy. Lemon curd, honeydew melon and tangerine fruit is matched with waxy and herbal undertones. Yum.

Very floral on the nose, with lime, grapefruit and orange peel as well. Chunky pineapple on the palate mixed with tangy grapefruit and floral tones. Crisp acid carries the wine through, keeps it clean. A blend of Malvasia Bianca and Marsanne.

  • 2011 Page Springs Cellars Chenin Blanc 88 Points

    USA, Arizona, Cochise County

A surprisingly good Chenin Blanc, with aromas of white cherry, ripe peach and lemon zest. Creamy and medium-bodied on the palate, but tangy acid makes it fresh. Balanced vanilla, hazelnut and toffee notes add a lot of complexity. This was aged in Arizona white oak, giving it some unique nuances. Really good stuff.

Flight 2 - Wedding Wines (3 Notes)

Later in the evening, my fiancée and I attended a wedding in Sedona and drank some decent stuff.

  • 2011 Page Springs Cellars Mules Mistake 86 Points

    USA, Arizona

Tasted a glass at L'Auberge de Sedona. A bright, red fruit-focused blend. Brisk acid with herbal and earthy undertones. A flavor that reminds me of tangerine lingers on the finish. A red blend that drinks like a rose. Best slightly chilled. 64% Zinfandel (AZ); 13% Pinot Noir (AZ); 12% Syrah (CA), 5% Barbera (CA); 4% Grenache (AZ); Gewurztraminer (CA).
