Very stony aromas. But palate is just a little amorphous. 15/20.

Lemon/lemon curd nose. Slightly tart citrus palate. Oddly rough texture; like you're tasting a pre-malo cask sample. 15.5/20.

Blackcurrant leaf aromas. Dry, stony palate; a little austere actually. 16/20.

Nose is still a touch sweaty/spicy. Beautiful palate though: some melon and stone fruit and then minerally to finish. Lovely balance and freshness. Very fine for an estate wine. 16.5+/20. Mid 2014+

Banana, brioche and crème brûlée aromas. Yuck! Tastes better than it smells but still not really my kinda chardonnay. 16/20.

Very chalky/mineral nose. Wow, this is extreme: stony and saline and bordering on anorexic. Very different to the (much richer) 2010 Lion's Tooth. Good but I suspect it's not for everyone. 17/20.

Bright, lightly perfumed nose. Strawberry fruit and also quite chalky. Some green, stemmy notes but they don't overwhelm. Sappy and refreshing. 16/20.

Soft, creamy nose with plenty of ripe red fruit. Very mineral with sweet red fruit and great purity. Transparent. Good! 17/20.

Quite sweet and floral for Gevrey. Very bright entry then an attractive mix of sweet fruit and spice. Lots to chew on. Long. 16.5/20. 2016+

Cherry fruit. Quite light-bodied but grippy. Tight core of fruit. Very young. 16.5/20. 2016+

Slightly reductive nose; touch of cinnamon, too. Full-bodied and tannic. Has that unmistakably Northern Rhone animal/ferrous quality. Some licorice too. Lovely and fresh but suspect it will improve. 17/20. 2015+

Nose is fairly mute; just a little sweet spice. Red fruit. Full-bodied with tightly-packed tannins. Good but needs time to unwind. 17/20. 2016+

Strawberry and distinctive limestone character on the nose. Palate is a little disjointed: some herbal notes but also a little sickly-sweet. 15.5/20.

Really pongy nose. Also quite vegetal: Asparagus? Broccoli? Not sure. Palate seems thin and underripe with quite jagged tannins. Not your typical Aussie shiraz. But not really to my taste either. 15/20.

Herbaceous nose; tomato leaf. Red fruit and an attractively fresh finish. Classic. But tannins are a little grainy just now. 16.5/20. 2015+

Cool, cedary nose with some cinnamon and tobacco. Still very tannic. But beautifully balanced. Very finely sculpted. Long and fresh. 17+/20. 2016+

Much more herbaceous nose than the Langoa Barton; pronounced menthol notes. Tannins also less suave/dustier by comparison. Fresh but less complex. 16.5/20 2015+

2000 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill
France, Champagne
Very stony but a little subdued next to the 2004 on this showing; probably just needs time. 17+ 2015+

2004 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut
France, Champagne
Slightly oxidative nose with hints of toffee apple. Very dry palate with iodine complexity. Real depth and obvious quality. Glorious. More impressive at this stage than (the more expensive) Cuvée Winston Churchill '04. 17.5/20.

Whistle clean and a really intense palate rinse. Good. 16.5/20.
