We sipped at the Kerry Wines Chateau Batailley Wine Dinner with Philippe Casteja (owner) sitting between us. We were caught by surprise with the Chinese preserved veggies and "yau sei mei" (24 herb tea) nose. Sadly not enough fruit to deal with this heavy, Chinese "tea". Big narrow on the palate with light tannins and short finish. A bit of a "intellectual" wine as many unusual aromas attacking the nose. Just did not have enough for us to be impressed...but still a good, if not interesting, wine.
At Otto's in London. Nice early maturity. Classic Pauillac with plenty of cassis, blackcurrant leaf and cedar on the nose. Ripe Blackcurrant fruit at the early end of maturity. Only a slightly watery short finish reveals the vintage character. Good wine.
