France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Very good floral spice with apple aromas, followed by apple and pear flavors with impressive freshness and density. Consistent notes from the past few years from bottles in good condition.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Lots of mature stone fruit aromas, equally impressive flavors that come across very powerful and fresh to start, slightly more earthy middle to end. Very enjoyable. Most preferred this slightly vs Martray 92 CC in the next glass, while I slightly preferred the Martray.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
What an incredible treat. Meaty, dense, still showing fruit with sous bois. Slightly shaken with sediment throughout, but still incredibly elegant. Thank you, David.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Great color, fill level. Served alongside Arnoux 71 Suchots. Very charming and powerful, while even fresh. Clearly a great old Burgundy (although if served blind, I'd have thought it younger), but this didn't whisper "Vosne" to me tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Served alongside Camille Giroud 71 Suchots. 4th bottle from the same case opened over the past 2 years, this was another of the great ones! Plenty of mature red berry with spice that was unmistakably Vosne. Lots of earth. Everything is in the right place, in the right proportion.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Big black fruit with lots of spice, all with very elegant structure that stayed in the background. Served alongside the 1996, which was flawed. Very strangely, this is the 2nd time in a year I've had this wine be great alongside a flawed '96.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Lots of bright red cherry and berry aromas and flavors with good spice including some new oak that hasn't quite fully integrated. I thought it very fun and enjoyable, others enjoyed it even more and found it more serious and intense.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
This was another of the Library release bottles that came to Chicago a couple of years ago. Lots of very robust black and red fruit aromas with engaging spice, very meaty and comforting. Same on palate, just somewhat backward. I wish we made an earlier decision to open this wine. Would have benefited from several hours of air.
1998 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Apple and pear aromas and flavors, very fresh for the 1998 vintage. Good balance, moderate weight. Less intensity than another bottle tried last year.

1999 Louis Jadot Le Montrachet Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Not undrinkable but far more mature than this wine should be at this age. Perhaps "88 points" tonight.

1998 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Slightly earthy and chewy, this never quite seemed to come into perfect balance in the glass despite good fruit, spice and structure.

1996 Domaine Denis Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Flawed

Very odd wine, very disjointed and off kilter.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Open 2 hours before serving, but still tight. Lost of clove, allspice to start with meaty red fruit. Long, powerful. Firm finish.
