  • 2003 Château Chauvin 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Decanted 6-8 hours and Tasted Blind. Brighter Red. Tight Nose, but showing some Blackberries. Relatively tight and compact on the palate also. Licorice, ripe berries and fine, drying tannins. 90+
was able to taste a little of this over the next several days. Tacks on a few points, ripe Fruit shows up nicely and still maintained some chalky, drying tannins.

  • 2003 Falesco Umbria Marciliano 91 Points

    Italy, Umbria

Decanted 6-8 hours and Tasted Blind. Compared to the rest of this flight -- this has a ripe and lucious nose. Blackberry Jam. Palate follows through with Blackberry Jam and Brambleberries, but still with some finesse. Only some toasted wood on the finish kept this down a little. Lingering finish. My wine of the Flight. 91+ Was able to track some of this over the next several days and it seems to improve

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2003 Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 93 Points

Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

Decanted 6-8 hours and Tasted Blind. Dark fruits, but a little toasty and hot on the nose. Palate deviated from the nose. Round and rich, seems pretty seemless and ready to go! Ripe berries, enough fruit to carry some wood that shows up on the back half of the palate. But the lingering finish featured rasberries. Very Nice! My wine of the flight and 2nd overall wine of the Night. Group picked it last in its flight. 93

  • 1998 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Decant 4-6 hours and Tasted Blind. Color bricking at the edges. Herbs and a little barnyard stink on the nose. Some of the Herbs rolling through on the palate, but also brings some great currants and cassis. Nice fine tannins. 92
Was able to track some of this over the next several days and it depreciated rather noticeably.

  • 2002 Neal Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Decanted 6-8hours and Tasted blind. Cedar and Rich fruit on the nose. Very Rich on the palate. Tannins are a bit pervasive right now... needs some time. But very special stuff. Groups Wine of the Flight and recieved the most First place votes from the Group for Wine of the Night. 92+
Was able to track some of this wine over the next 2 days. Jammy Fruit has major hang time and this wine seems destined for a quality long life.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2001 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Flawed

    USA, Washington

Decanted 6-8 hours and Tasted Blind. Oh NO! Clearly Corked. Although some waded through the mess to say there was underlying quality. Upon reveal... lots of moaning.

  • 1997 Harlan Estate 97 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Decanted 4-6 hours and Tasted Blind. Nose smelled to me like Boysenberries and Raisin Pie. LOTS of great concentrated fruit on the palate. Currants, Anise, Juicy berries. So much stuffing seems like it should be a huge wine... but impressively stays approachable at every stop on the palate. Perfect balance. Tannins seem to linger forever... but not in a drying or unpleasant manner. Very impressive stuff. Groups Wine of the Flight, and My (and the Group's) Wine of the Night. 97+

  • 2003 Januik Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 89 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

Decanted 6-8 hours and Tasted blind. Ripe fruit and some sweet wood on the nose. Ripe and juicy on the palate, nice... but none of the components to compete with the wine that preceeeded it. 89
Tasted again on days 2 and 3. When Fruit Fades, wood is way too much.
