The place has definitely seen better days and does not feel special or elegant. Felt like an 80s movie...Good wine list at least.
The NOMA of San Francisco . Very solid place and with beautiful food
The institution that started the food scene in San Fran. Pretty solid food, old school. Good wine list.A bit far from downtown San Fran though..
An impromptu wine flight :)
1985 Calera Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard 95 Points

Would suggest denting this wine at this stage as it definitely benefitted from aeration. An elegant wine, like a fine burgundy but with the fruit notched up a bit. Like a 99 vintage burgundy but with more age. Not as earthy as expected, rich and juicy, savoury edge on the finish and with a smoky, roast meat feel. Good fruit on the palate , elegant and pure ( this is no Cali Pinot fruit bomb) . Develops nicely over time and has easily another 10yrs + of good life. A truly special wine. 95

1986 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard 94 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley

From a time before Araujo too over the vineyard. Need decanting both for sediment, brutal soot clear some funky smell on the nose.earthy, mushroomy notes on the nose mix with a good dose of dark fruits, light leather. Good density of fruit on the palate, from start to end, very vibrant wine and although secondary has the structure to go another 20 years. A touch of sweet core fruit on the mid plate reminds you this is napa and not pauillac. Very elegant and pure. Mr Phelps must be kicking himself for letting this vineyard go away.. 94
