  • 1997 Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici Riserva 88 Points

    Italy, Campania, Taurasi DOCG

    Color clear and fully developed.
The nose is clear, showing med intensity, red currant and dried red cherry, sundried tomato, dried herbs like thyme, earthy notes, nutmeg, sweet oak, fully developed and a bit funky still despite the 2.5-3hr decant.
The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med acidity and alcohol (13.50%), med tannins, animal notes, leather, redcurrant, in the med finish.
Very good quality, premium price, ready to drink now but it could keep for a couple more year.

  • 1999 Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici Riserva 91 Points

    Italy, Campania, Taurasi DOCG

The color is darker that the previous 2 but still evolved, closer to the garnet.
The nose is clean, med+ intensity offering serious complexity, more animal notes with leather as well, black pepper, oak more apparent with mocca springled on top, cigar box, tobacco leaves, never ending perfume in the glass, developed.
The wine is dry, med+ body and intensity, med/med+ acidity and med alcohol (13.50%), med to med+ tannins, balanced, dense with black currants and prunes, creme de cassis notes, fine texture although a bit drying tannins, it still feels young in the palate despite being 15 years old, long aftertaste.
Outstanding quality, premium pice, drinking now but can hold more. Excellent value for money

  • 1998 Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici Riserva 87 Points

    Italy, Campania, Taurasi DOCG

    Fully developed color.
The nose is clear although a bit funky as well despite the long decant, med- intensity, fully developed character, cherry jam, earthy with pluym and black currant, tobacco leaves, walnut, sweet oak, a few hints buttery/milk chocolate notes.
The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med acidity and alcohol (13.50%), med dissolved tannins, chocolate, alcohol burning through the thin concentration, dried fruit, prunes and redcurrant, thyme, in the med aftertaste.
Very good quality showing the weakness of the vintage though when compared to the other 2, premium price, past its best
