Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2005 Flagstone Wallflower 90 Points

    South Africa, Western Cape

Clean fresh, fragrant floral nose. This wine rewards more if it is not too chilled. It gives out a fruity floral nose and leads you to think it'll be sweetish, but there is a lovely twist in the wine as the Sauvignon Blanc kicks in and it finishes dry. Lovely wine.

Clear bright oale gold colour. Lovely clean, full bodied (little oily), tropical fruits, honeydew melon, acid drops. Lovely wine at a great price.

Complex, hazlenut nuttiness, rounded, maybe a little warm but well made with good acidity on finish.

  • 2004 Spier Private Collection SMV 85 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

Plummy rich colour, some coffee/vanilla/toffee/mint flavours and spicy sweetness, and maybe a little hot finish. We opened two bottles and there was some bottle variation, with one being more closed than the other.

  • 2006 Diemersfontein Pinotage The Original 85 Points

South Africa, Coastal Region, Paarl, Wellington

As soon as bottle is opened theres a burst of coffee and chocolate smells, its like expresso coffee and red berries. There's smoky chocolate and well balanced fruit and some sweetness. But maybe a bit lighter and less intense than previous vintages. However, this is the 2006 vintage, just been delivered and could probably do with some more time.

Quite light, European style. Red fruit onnose, Beautifully well balanced, flavours come together -- plums, cherries and xmas pudding -- fruits balanced with acidity. An elegant wine.

Stains glass, rich ripe, warm sweet oaky fruits, berries and spice. Like a good northern Rhone. Delicious.

Savoury minty nose, mouthfull of fruit that lasts and lasts, medium bodied, toasty and complex, long finish. Wonderful.

  • 2001 Delheim Grand Reserve 85 Points

South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch

Rather restrained nose, big blackcurrant and mint flavours, warm finish. Seems very young for a 5 year old wine -- I'll keep the rest for a while.
