A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Blanc, 48 months sur lattes, bottled 2012. Mature but lively colour, fine bead; lovely fruity richness on the nose from the Pinot Blanc, spicy depth, citrus and minerals; very linear and clean style on the palate, minerals, lively and intense, hint of nuttiness, green herbs; very good length.
Intense and powerful Sauvignon, almost meaty nose, vinous and mineral palate, attractive vegetal notes, hint of tropical fruit, box tree, tight acidity, good length. Needs time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Slightly oxidative, tight, good depth but the acidity sticks out a bit, hint of wet straw, dry and a bit austere, quite alive in spite of some premox but has lost its charm. Not rated.
Relatively deep colour; cheese rind nose, opens up to honey, deep and quite oxidative; slightly odd palate but rounds out well, past best but not without charm. Not rated.
Displays the typical gravelly 1988 profile, austere but no lack of charm, hint of oxidation, fully mature, good depth, a bit foursquare, mineral, good intensity and length.
A mature and elegant Palmer, shares the gravelly character with the Alesme that preceded it but there is more floral lift, refined but drying, opens up beautifully in the glass.
Bright cabernet fruit, mature, lead pencil, more lift than the 1998, medium weight, attractive style, relatively feminine for Montrose, good length. Drinking well.
Bottled 2012. Lovely colour, medium deep, lively reddish tawny; the nose displays excellent lift and freshness, wonderfully defined candied Grenache fruit, tertiary notes of treacle, nuts and lovage, hint of baby powder, just a hint of wood, very youthful; the off-dry, savoury palate has a slightly tangy acidity, vestiges of Grenache fruit and a slightly drying character; length is good but relatively light finish. Very attractive wine, light and elegant, incredibly youthful after 73 years on oak. Very different from Jancis' 2012 tasting note.
Pristine bottle, but much more developed and drier than the marvellous bottle tasted in November 2013, even though it is from the same case. Only medium-dry now but still lively, with a honeyed note and an attractive herby Firne-character.

2011 Castello della Sala (Antinori) Umbria Cervaro della Sala 90 Points

Youthful and energetic, the liberal dose of new oak needs time to integrate but the weight of fruit is there, caramelly, very good length.

Wonderfully peppery and aromatic, immediately recognisable, light weight but beautifully balanced, hardly a profound wine but already very charming.

Deep and earthy, riper and richer than I remembered, still quite tannic too, good weight.
