France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Another amazing 2 bottles. While this may come across as big and forward with less precision than a great grand cru, it is so delicious it doesn't matter.
Initially this was focused and precise with excellent fruit and mineral notes. But next to the PYCM Meursault, this smelled like a Sauternes and tasted like a Riesling. Fascinating transition.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Very similar to the bottle last year (apparently this is now an annual thing). The spiced and dried floral notes on the nose are incredibly alluring and the grip and vibrancy on the palate is outstanding. This is definitely my favorite 02 DRC to drink today.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Very rich and round flavors of red and blue fruit along with spice and just a touch of earth. Next to the DRC this seemed somehow more manipulated and stern, but still delivered waves of full, ripe, sweet fruit. Smooth and round. More polished without the grip of the DRC.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Quite a bit of oak, dense dark fruit and a slight green note on the nose. This carries through to the palate with dense dark fruit, cedar and spice all come together in a tightly wound sphere. Great texture, but seems to be a creature of the vintage and I am not sure where this will go.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Forward nose of dark fruit, dark chocolate, hint of black pepper and touch of oak. Round and polished in the mouth. Rich and creamy texture with a nice vanilla note on the finish. No green or herbal notes and a success for the vintage.
Consistent with my prior bottle although this emphasized the earth an tobacco more than the red and black fruit. Perhaps it was out of context with all these red Burgs....
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
I enjoyed this much more than the last bottle. This seemed more excited and vibrant tonight but the rhubarb, red fruit, roses, spice and mushrooms were all still at play.
