  • PnP and followed over a few hours.

This bottle was quite funky with strong aromas of roasted red meat, dark fruit, and earth floor. With time in the glass it relaxed and opened up to a more elegant dark red cherry compote and minty note. Body was quite attractive with a softness and elegance that was somewhat opposite of the nose on the pour. Long finish.

One hour of air and then followed closely through the night

The first pour released highly aromatic tart red and dark red fruit, with hints of cinnamon, rich Star anise, cloves and Christmas, which all continued the entire night. The body is full and attractive, built for power more than finesse with seriously weighty structure, nice acidity, and more tart red fruit and minerals. Finish is delicious with a nice length. Very very good but may reach greater heights in a couple years as it mellows.

  • Bought on release, a long wait but worth it. Everything that you would expect from decade old Echezeaux.

  • Ceres Table (Chicago): Very rich and round flavors of red and blue fruit along with spice and just a touch of earth. Next to the DRC this seemed somehow more manipulated and stern, but still delivered waves of full, ripe, sweet fruit. Smooth and round. More polished without the grip of the DRC.

  • Birthday Celebration (Grace Restaurant, Chicago IL): Opened an hour before serving and poured alongside the 02 DRC. The aromatics erupted from the glass while the wine was still being poured. It was almost like a mix of cherry pie and blueberry pie filling with an amazing array of brown spices with clove and allspice in the forefront. Some savory herb notes as well. Very dense and full of power on the palate. Lots of richness with some structure poking through, but overall a very giving, hedonistic style of wine, while the DRC was more restrained. My wine of the night.
