Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Miani Friulano 90 Points

Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Friuli Colli Orientali

    Pop and poured.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of mild oak, flint and saline minerality, almond, citrus lemon, and hints of tropical fruit. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of flint and saline minerality, waxy bitter almond, citrus lemon, and tropical pineapple. Long finish.
Very good quality. I would say this feels very tight at the moment and hopefully will open up more over the next 3-4 years. Drink up by 5 years' time.
Varietal: Tocai Friulano (also known as Sauvignon Vert)

  • 1999 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 95 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Pop and poured. Opened up with more air within 30 minutes. Experience almost the same as previous, with a few additional nuances.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of dusty earth, ferrous minerality, tea leaves, soy sauce, slight chocolate, and sour red cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, smooth melt in your mouth medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of powdery dusty earth, ferrous minerality, tea leaves, soy sauce, sour red cherries, red plums, slight licorice. Long finish.
Outstanding quality. My friends commented that this still has quite a fair bit of primary life in it and they feel it could still hold well for years. Well, if its drinking so well now, why wait any longer?
