  • Decanted for a couple of hours, really needed that to get going. Very much almondy and savory on the nose with a Marsanne-esque side to it. Not massively aromatic or fruity, more cereal-like than anything. On the palate it is fairly rich and viscous with some alcoholic warmth but I would not call it fat. Not super expressive here either but there is a quite distinct, very dry fruity quality to it. A style unfamiliar to me but comes off as very confident in what it is. I don't find the style hugely appealing but I can easily appreciate the uniqueness.

  • 100% organically farmed Friulano. Vinified and aged in oak barriques. 14% alcohol. Bottle opened two hours in advance, moved to a decanter after an hour.

Intense, concentrated yellow-green color. Complex and moderately evolved yet not particularly expressive nose with layered aromas of ripe yellow fruits, mature notes of marzipan and nuts, some hay, light nuances of browned butter and creaminess, a little bit of juicy nectarine and a hint of wizened apple. Seems to be in a lovely shape at the moment. The wine is broad, slightly oily and quite full-bodied on the palate with complex and somewhat evolved flavors of rich creaminess, some almondy nuttiness and marzipan, a little bit of wizened red apple, light apricot notes, a hint of savory spice and a tertiary touch of browned butter. The overall feel is balanced with the moderately high acidity, although the wine is quite weighty and the mouthfeel slightly on the unctuous side. The high alcohol shows a little. The finish is long, ripe and somewhat mellow with a little bit of alcohol warmth and a lush aftertaste of honeydew melon, some almond paste, light buttery notes, a little bit of savory wood spice, a creamy hint of panna cotta and a touch of nectarine.

A big and slightly fat wine that never gets clumsy or ponderous despite its size. After an hour of breathing the wine was still slightly restrained, but opened up nicely after two hours or so. In a terrific shape right now, showing good sense of development and mature complexity, yet retaining a good deal of vibrant and still youthful fruit. Although I prefer lighter and zippier whites to this kind of ripe and quite voluminous wines, I found this Friulano both very enjoyable for the style and really nice for the variety. An impressive effort that is drinking wonderfully right now and will probably continue to develop for a handful of years more. Good value at 30-35€.

  • Shows mostly minerality with some herbal and grass characteristics on the nose. Quite rich all the way through the palate but with enough acid to balance the finish. More fruit pips and stony character with some white flesh fruit which comes out more with food (a shrimp pasta dish in this case). Quite a nice wine, but just a notch below the single vineyard bottlings. Drink when it matches your meal. No reason to hold.

  • A beautiful wine which is totally open for business. Compared to previous tastings, the wine has gotten some age. The fruit is less outspoken but still present and certainly pleasant. With a creamy and silky first impression the wine reveals it as had its share of oak. It apparently also went through malo, but fresh and totally lovely tones of lemon and lime zest is very much present. Balance and integration is there too and adds to the overall positive impression. It is certainly time to drink up if you have any bottles left. There is little if no development left here. The overall impression stands without the slightest adjustment: An amazing wine by an amazing winemaker!

  • Two bottles in the last couple of months. Both exceptional. Outstanding wine making from perhaps the greatest white wine maker in the world. Drinking well now but will last.
