Tasted Wednesday, January 14, 2015 - Thursday, January 15, 2015 by pjaines with 613 views
An excellent tasting with the reds showing very well tonight.
The whites were all rather clipped and I didn't bother making notes.
Stand outs were the Sylvian Pataille Marsannays and the whole Bichot range - they have seriously raised their game in recent years.
2013 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay L'Ancestrale
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
(1/15/2015)
En-Primeur Tasting: Beautiful concentration of fruit here without ever being blowsy or overdone - focussed and sweet tannins over black fruit stamped through with minerals. The age of the vines really shows through here. A must-buy for me.

2013 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Clos du Roy
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
(1/15/2015)
Shows the typical Pataille aromas here of black fruit, coconut and minerals but this is much more perfurmed than the Longerois and Clemengeots. I think this will drink well young, but there is serious potential here.

2013 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
(1/15/2015)
A serious Bourgogne - rounded, ripe with deep black/red fruit notes and a touch of vanilla extract coming through. A cracking Bourgogne and good value.

2013 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne Le Chapitre
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
(1/15/2015)
En Primeur tasting: My notes simply said "This CANNOT be Bourgogne!". Brilliant depth and breadth on the palate with good use of oak - fleshy and oppulent yet always in balance. A buy for me.

2013 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay les Grasses Têtes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
(1/15/2015)
En Primeur tasting: Very focussed and refined palate, much more so than the other Marsannays from Pataille - seems to be less oak influence. Balanced and elegant.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
(1/15/2015)
En Primeur: Showing really well tonight with a huge whack of flint, butterscotch and minerals. Long finish. Will drink well in its youth.

2013 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Rouge
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: Shows the character of the vineyard - much higher up the slope and a cooler site than the standard Bourgogne - shows with a more crisp and clipped finish. Very tangy. Average.

2013 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Volnay Clos de la Cave
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: Surprisingly open tonight with a very pure fruit profile laid over a fine boned structure - pretty with some sweeter tannins. Elegant and refined. I like this.

2013 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: Much more serious wine than the standard Volnays, this will need some time to integrate - firm, rigid fruit and the oak is still quite apparent - quite tarte and tough at the moment. Good ingredients though.

2013 Domaine Jean-Marc / Thomas Bouley Volnay Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: Another soft, open and pretty Volnay - the fruit really shining here - lightweight in colour but good depth of aroma and palate.

2013 Maison Albert Bichot Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Domaine du Pavillon
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: I liked this - a nice slab of minerality runs through this - the lightweight colour belies the depth on the palate. This will need some time to come round but a lovely wine.

2013 Maison Albert Bichot Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos des Maréchaudes Domaine du Pavillon
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
EP Tasting: Grippy, tannic with quite austere fruit at the moment. Tough to love tonight but built for the long haul.

2013 Maison Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanée
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
(1/15/2015)
I loved this wine - it had a sensual, feminine and perfumed nose - very light and pretty - elegant. A buy for me - the kind of Pinot Noir that only gets made in Burgundy.

2013 Maison Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny

2013 Maison Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chabiots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
A huge step up from their village wines, this has a brilliant breadth on the palate with sweet tannins and a pure, linear splash of fruit with the terroir peeking out underneat. Should be quite a wine in 10 years,

2013 Domaine Tortochot Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
(1/15/2015)
This is excellent value - and the quality is very good for a Bourgogne - an early drinker with lots of punchy, tangy cherry fruit.

2013 Domaine Tortochot Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
(1/15/2015)
Seriously serious wine - a nefarious air about it with lurking black fruit hiding all manner of dark matter which is just coiled up tight waiting to envelope this wine over the coming years. Probably goes head to head in a ying-and-yang style with the Clos de Lambray as the stand out Grand Cru this year for me - this is Darth Vader to Lambray's Luke Skywalker.

2013 Domaine Tortochot Morey St. Denis
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
(1/15/2015)
Good depth here that will need some time to resolve - a flint, tangy, mineral palate - should funk up into quite a feral little beast in the years to come.

2013 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
(1/15/2015)
Really stood out from the pack (not in a good way) with its mealy, rich, oaty palate - reductive as the previous taster has said - very ripe and plummy.

2013 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
Black, dense, full, ripe and very grippy with a teeth-coating layer and matter. This will need about 8 billions years to come round.

2013 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
(1/15/2015)
Much more minerally than the other 1er Crus from Gouges but still with that oatmeal and softer tang.
