Spoon Thai - Chicago, IL

A group of wine geek friends gathered on a frosty, sub-zero night in Chicago to enjoy German Riesling and thai food. Lively conversation, great wine and tasty food warmed up the night.
The Rieslings showed wonderfully. For me it was a great view into the beauty of young guns as well as ~15 year old Auslesen. Both spectrums performed incredibly well.
Spoon Thai is a fun venue for this type of dinner. Very good food (which is unbelievably delicious at times - i.e. the Waterfall Steak Salad), informal setting and adequate stay-out-of-the-way service. All you can ask for at $20 per head.
Thanks to all!
1996 Darting Dürkheimer Hochbenn Riesling Kabinett 92 Points
Germany, Pfalz
Brilliant golden color. Gorgeous and layered aromas of petrol, orange rind, dried pineapple, pears and caramel. Full-bodied, spicy white fruits. Precise with acid lifting the fruit into a long finish. Fruit is surprising ripe and vibrant for a 11+ year old Kabinett. Very nice. (5+13+17+7)

2005 Johann Geil Bechtheimer Geyersberg Riesling Spätlese feinherb 85 Points
Germany, Rheinhessen
Light straw color. Clean and crisp aromas fail to leave an impression. Dry with plenty of acid and alcohol. Some minerals, lemon rind and wet socks. But mostly non-descript and short. Likely overshadowed by it's flightmate the '96 Darting Kab. (4+11+15+5=85)
