Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2011 MacDonald Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Tasted Blind. Interesting nose of blackberry, cherry, violets and currant. Leaning more towards the old world than the new world with the nose. This then had flavors of sour cherry, blackberry, earth and herb. The fruit dropped off and it kind of picked up a earthiness on the mid palate that carried through the long finish. Not a bad thing, just leaning towards more old world in my opinion. I guessed Dominus. An interesting wine and would like be interested to see how this fairs in another vintage.

  • 2009 Melka Métisse Jumping Goat 95 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasted Blind. Nose had violets, cassis, raspberry and cherry. More traditional Napa Valley then the first wine, but not your big over the top nose. This was still quite tight even with a 3 hour decant and served a little too cool but somehow still showed great. Lot of dark fruit on the palate with blackberry, currant and iron. Ended with a nice 35 second finish. I guess the Melka and I was right. Impressive wine.

  • 2011 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Tasted blind. Aromas of cherry, game, strawberry and pure Pinot fruit jump out of the glass. Immediately knew it was a Pinot by the aroma profile. This was big and expansive on the palate with cherry, pomegranate and raspberry. Ended with a nice 30-35 second finish. A big wine but not over the top by any means. Surprised to find the Cirq. Shared some similarities with Kosta Browne but this is a little more dialed back in style.

  • 2005 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Tasted blind. Immediately knew this was the Williams Selyem just by the color. Lighter and starting to show signs of age. Nose was quite nice with mushroom, strawberry, rose petal, herb and a touch of matchstick. But for how great the nose was, the palate could not match it. Nice flavors of dried cherry, dried raspberry and rhubarb. Ended with a shorter finish than the 3 other wines. A nice wine but I expected a little more from this to be honest.
