Introduction

Dinner with some of the Ruinart/ LVMH team, with some of their current releases and a few mid-aged bottles from our respective cellars.

Flight 1 - Wines with Dinner (10 Notes)

Flight 2 - But Wait...There's More Wine in Gary's Cellar (2 Notes)

  • 1982 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Popped and poured, this was a huge step up from another bottle also P&P'ed a year ago. Lots of maturing red cherry with red licorice, dried rose petals. Open and exciting to start, this kept getting longer and more enticing over the ~30 minutes in glass.

  • 1997 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Popped and poured. Lots of very ripe, slightly maturing black berry and cherry aromas and flavors. More subtle iron and saline notes vs the Jadot 1996 Musigny from earlier in the evening, but a similar sense of place still comes through. Very good concentration and length. Very good now, I'd expect this to stay at this level for at least 5+ years, possibly 10.
