Ripe apple on nose and palate. with floral notes. Seemed slightly fatter than I recall from when first tried a few months back. Nicely energetic, but not quite as as long a finish as I recall from before.
Tasted alongside the 1996, perhaps this was an imperfect bottle. Slightly musty to start with clear berry aromas and flavors, but this never really came out of its shell.
Second of two bottles opened tonight. What a contrast to the first bottle, this was an engaging older Champagne with great precision and energy to accompany the slightly mature apple.
Lots of orchard fruit that is just faintly starting to mature around the edges. Lots of power. I really like this wine, but always prefer its 2002 counterpart that was also in the next glass.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Open and decanted ~ 2 hours before serving. Nose of red berry, cherry starting to mature with savory spice and great sauteed mushroom character. Plate was similar in its flavor profile, but tight and barely accessible through the middle despite hours of air. I'm confident in this wine's quality and potential, but expect it will need another decade to show its real potential. 95 points on nose, 91 on palate today.
Popped and poured, this was a huge step up from another bottle also P&P'ed a year ago. Lots of maturing red cherry with red licorice, dried rose petals. Open and exciting to start, this kept getting longer and more enticing over the ~30 minutes in glass.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Popped and poured. Lots of very ripe, slightly maturing black berry and cherry aromas and flavors. More subtle iron and saline notes vs the Jadot 1996 Musigny from earlier in the evening, but a similar sense of place still comes through. Very good concentration and length. Very good now, I'd expect this to stay at this level for at least 5+ years, possibly 10.

From the most recent release. Lots of apple with some lemon peel aromas. Fresh and energetic, once again showing itself as high quality at its price.

First of two bottles. Dark color, little effervescence, this was well past its peak. Next bottle however....

2002 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs

Great orchard fruit with bursts of energy, but there's so much of everything good already in balance. Great now, with a long life ahead of it.
