Overall a relatively disappointing tasting. While we had a few pleasant wines, the majority of Rieslings seemed a bit dull and the reds seemed mostly tired out. I would have thought these Northern wines would have brighter acidity
NV Brickstone Cellars Brut
USA, New York
A little scary seeing "Champagne" on the label. I thought that practice was outlawed by ATF.
That said, this is soundly made, but seems to have some odd foxy flavors without some of the easy charm of other New York sparklers.

2012 Dr. Konstantin Frank Grüner Veltliner

pale straw colored. bone dry with some light green flavors. While missing some of the bracing acidity and focus of better Austrian versions, this is a quite pleasant if easy wine.

2013 Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling

pale straw. light petrol, lime aromas. aggressively bone dry with tart green apple flavors. A bit out of balance, seeming, but interesting

2012 Hermann J. Wiemer Dry Riesling

WOTN (though not so much of an honor tonight)
A slight touch of sweetness, in this "dry" Riesling. But altogether a rather nice, balanced wine.

light varietal flavors, but the complete lack of any acidity left this a bit lacking.

2012 Wagner Semi-Dry Riesling
USA, New York, Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake
light straw colored. Light petrolly nose, but kind of dull without sufficient acidity to keep it fresh.

2007 Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Noir
USA, New York, Finger Lakes
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the NY tasting.
light scarlet. Very tired, flat tasting with a chalky finish (not in a good way). Perhaps just past its prime? Very recent purchase, so storage since release is unclear.

also rather disappointing. Rather green with some dried out cranberry fruit and a short finish. Not recommended.

quite nice crystalline deep ruby colored. Bright plummy and cranberry flavors. Really light feeling on palate, but quite pleasant.

2012 Hector Wine Company Essence
USA, New York, Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake
43% merlot; 14% CF; 7% Syrah; 36% cab sauv.
This bottle seemed quite flat and dried out, similar to most of the other reds tonight. Not recommended.

2013 Wagner Riesling Ice Wine
USA, New York, Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake
syrupy sweet, but no noticeable botrytis. This had a very prickly mouth feel to me, like it was over acidified.
