Flight 1 - White Graves (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Reds (8 Notes)

  • 2009 Château Cantemerle Les Allées de Cantemerle

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Ruby center. Sharp, peppery nose. Medium weight. Olive more than fruit flavor, dry, high acidity, mildly oaky base. Not enough here.

  • 2009 Château La Salle de Poujeaux

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc

Light ruby core. Some perfume. Light bodied. Gentle, supple feel with cocoa, good minerality and acidity with some tannin. Nice for short term.

  • 2009 Château Potensac

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc

Light ruby. Herbs and dill on the nose. Light weight but with a hint of chocolatey richness. Black fruit, lovely concentration, acidity, and a moderately long finish. Nice balance, good value.

  • 2009 Château Durfort-Vivens

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Medium ruby. Backward aromatics. Medium weight. Harsh, bitter, and green. Not nearly enough flesh even in this round vintage. I can't see it improving from here. Poor.

  • 2009 Château d'Issan

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Ruby center. Gently herbal scents. Elegant, soft style though enlivened by its acidity. No perceptible wood. Really sense the Merlot's influence here. Lovely weight, very good back end structure. Excellent wine, better with 5 more years. My favorite red of the flight.

  • 2009 Château Brane-Cantenac

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Deep ruby-darkest color of the lot. Backward, sweaty nose. Big, rich, very oaky, and tannic. As much as the d'Issan feature Merlot, this one is all Cabernet. Impressive constitution but too much wood for its own good.

  • 2009 Château du Tertre

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Light ruby. Fascinating herbal, smoky aromatics. Elegant feel. More dill than fruit, good acidity. Tails off quickly. Surprising amount of maturity. Not enough.

  • 1996 Château du Tertre

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Mature, tawny color. Stalky, green nose. Light weight and lively, but the fruit has given way to fennel and green herbs. The best part of it is its light, resolved, silky feel, but overall, only OK at best for its lack of flavor.
