  • 1993 Dufouleur Père & Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Drank over 1 hour.
Appearance is pale intensity, garnet colour. Sediments. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of mushrooms, earth, sous bois, spice, sweet tea leaves. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol, full integrated medium tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, mushrooms, sous bois, tea leaves, lots of spice, and barely hanging on fruit of sour cherry and prune. Medium+ finish.
Guessed a Vosne-Romanée almost Grand Cru standard wine, in an off vintage of >15 years' old.
Very good quality, this Malconsorts certainly has its standards. Fruit is drying out. Drink up.

  • 2010 Pahlmeyer Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 91 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Drank from bottle over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet baking spice, floral tones, raspberries, red cherries. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.9%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet baking spices, raspberries, red cherries, strawberries. Long finish.
I was guessing a NZ Pinot Noir, then the alcohol kicked in, and I was wondering if this was an elegant Northern Rhone Syrah?
Very good quality Sonoma Pinot Noir. Nice drinking, but I marked this down as the acidity could have been better, and it doesn't seem to be one for ageing. Drink up over the next 2 years.

  • NV Ruinart Champagne Brut Rosé 88 Points

    France, Champagne

Tasted blind. Drank over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, salmon-pink colour. Legs. Fine persistent bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium- intensity, with aromas of minerality and strawberry. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of minerality, strawberry, light red cherry. Long finish though.
Good quality. Tastes like a reasonable generic Rosé champer from a big house. Struggling hard to show itself but falling short. As Jancis accurately writes: "Restrained, indistinct. Lacking definition." Drink up.
The Ruinart BdB would give you a lot more bang for the buck.

  • 2013 Di Lusso Lagrein 92 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Mudgee

Tasted blind. Screw-cap. Pop and poured.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, opaque purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of strong black pepper, spices, floral notes, blackberries, black cherries, licorice, toasty vanilla oak. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of black pepper, spices, blackberries, black cherries, vanilla, licorice, slight leather with more air. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was guessing a cooler climate Aussie Shiraz.
Can drink young now, but I think it will be interesting to keep this for another 3-4 years and see where this goes.
100% Lagrein (Alto-Adige Italian grape varietal).

  • 2005 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir Beaux Frères Vineyard 93 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge

Poured into decanter and drank after 1 hour of air.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral violets, sweet baking spice, cola, earth, ripe red cherries, strawberries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cola, sweet baking spices, earth, ripe red cherries, strawberries. Medium finish.
Very good quality. All agreed this was rather feminine. They were actually guessing Chambolle-Musigny!?
Lovely and elegant on the nose and attack. My gripe is that this fades a bit towards the finish which seems a little lacking. Drink up, I don't see this getting any better than this.
Very poor QPR though, I could get an equally good Pinot for half the price elsewhere in the New World.
    Winery co-owned by Robert Parker.

  • NV Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée Brut 87 Points

    France, Champagne

Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Fine bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of bready yeast, brioche, citrus lemon-lime. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon-lime, tart green apple, bready yeast, brioche. Medium finish.
Acceptable quality. Lean style. Nothing special here. I am obviously not feeling the love here as much as the other cellartracker reviews. Maybe I'm just not a fan of the lean tart style.
60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier.
