I don't know the amount on this vintage, but this wine usually has a large percentage of Sangiovese, and it shows. The most accessible of the wines, it was a little lighter and brighter than the others. As a result, it was probably the best pairing of the night.

    Lovely wine.
Dark fruit, spice, tobacco, and some leather. Further evolved than the Oreno, the tannins still need to resolve. Either give it a nice decant or wait a few years.

Flight 5 (2 Notes)

Braised Lamb & Lamb Sausage, Stone Ground Polenta & Cipollimi Onion

  • 2013 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT 93 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Bottles open for extended time but not decanted.
    Nose of dark fruit.
Mostly dark fruit with some chocolate and a little earthiness, leather. Although young and the tannins are still noticable, everything is in balance already. I think it will be very elegant when it grows up.
This wine needs more bottle time. But you can sort of see where it is going.
This was my wine of the night.

  • 2013 Campo Al Mare Bolgheri Rosso

    Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri

Bottle open for an extended time prior to pouring
Big wine, dark fruit. Very lush but not quite the same level as the other wines served. Least food friendly of the group, which may have hurt it a little in comparison.

Flight 6 (1 Note)

Tasting of Italian Cheese

  • 2012 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 93 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Sassicaia

Bottle opened for an extended period prior to pouring.
Big nose of briar, leather and spices.
Way too early, however this is a very good wine in the making. Already pretty lush and velvety, there is lots of nice fruit layered with spice and some earthiness. Still the classic Super Tuscan
