Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

  • 2012 Château de Roquefort Mediterranée Grêle 86 Points

    France, Provence, Mediterranée

A wine with a story (as you can read on the back label, which I uploaded as well) July 1st a 7 minute hail storm destroyed -except from 15 kg. - the whole the crop. 35 of the better producers from the area donated part of their harvest, so this domain could produce wine this year. And the result is really good. Salmon color. Very clean bouquet with roses and strawberry. Same on the palate and really juicy. Nicely dry, fresh and mild acidity, minerals, concentrated and pleasant bitterness. Beautiful and round wine.

  • 2012 Domaine Saint Aix Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence AIX Rosé 84 Points

    France, Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

The bouquet hardly shows anything; maybe some rose buds. On the palate roses, some small red berries, juicy mild acidity and nicely dry. Clean wine. Some bitterness in the finish, ok length.

  • 2003 Château Saint-Marc Côtes de Provence Grand Reserve Domini 84 Points

    France, Provence, Côtes de Provence

Bouquet with dark and red berry fruits, some salty licorice and white pepper. On the palate the first thing to notice is firm bitterness, white pepper, green bell pepper, chocolate, blood, firm acidity and drying tannin. Definitely and ok wine, but there is no finesse.

  • 2003 Château Simone Palette 86 Points

    France, Provence, Palette

In the bouquet mostly red berry fruits, salty minerals, flint stone, some herbs, vanilla and smoke. On the palate red berries, vanilla, metal, a touch of sweetness, firm acidity and slightly drying tannin. Rustic and yet also some elegance. Ready now and no real hurry.

  • 2006 Château de Pibarnon Bandol 90 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, plums, some red berries, earth and lavender. On the palate juicy dark forest fruits, earth, autumn impressions, a touch of sweetness and also good acidity. The tannin is round and also still a little bit sticky. Beautiful and concentrated wine, still in its early maturity stage. No problem storing this until 2017+.

  • 2004 Domaine Les Luquettes Bandol 88 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

Very spicy bouquet; garrigue with white pepper, lavender and animals as well. On the palate juicy dark forest fruits, dark chocolate, a bit rustic, firm acidity, tannin and bitterness. Really nice wine, ready now and it can last a few years as well.

Flight 7 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Domaine Tempier Bandol Flawed

    France, Provence, Bandol

In the bouquet the wine (or is it the bottle?) is starting to show some serious ageing with lovage, chocolate, iodine and herbs. On the palate the same impressions. Most likely a faulty bottle, so no more notes and no score.

  • 2005 Domaine Tempier Bandol La Tourtine 92 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits and rustic barnyard flavors. On the palate dark berries, leather, tobacco, beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a pleasant bite. Complex and well balanced, beautiful wine. This bottle is at the top of its maturity stage now, but without any doubt it can last a few more years as well. Great wine!
