Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted blind.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et La Salle Valle d'Aosta 81 Points

    Italy, Valle d'Aosta

In the bouquet yellow fruits, candy and blossom. On the palate candy, cherry candy stick, minerals and bitterness. On the palate friendly and easy going, kiwi, some grasses. Leaves the mouth dry after swallowing. A bit warmer more acidity and bitterness appeared. Special wine just above basic, but interesting and not unpleasant.

  • 2011 Azienda Agricola Cornarea Roero Arneis 84 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero

Yellow fruits, flowers and some perfume in the bouquet. On the palate slightly sparkling in the start, bananas, ripe pineapple, pear and blossom. Round with a nice balance between sweetness and acidity and a good length. A nice and friendly wine.

  • 2011 Favaro Erbaluce di Caluso Le Chiusure 86 Points

Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Erbaluce di Caluso

Some smoky impressions and citrus like grapefruit in the bouquet. On the palate floral, yellow fruits, a bit fat, some sweetness and also good acidity and some bitterness. Good freshness in a medium long finish. Reading some other notes here I can tell that in Italy the wine costs around $10 and for that price the wine delivers a good qpr.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2005 Plozza Sforzato di Valtellina Sfursat Vin da Ca' 86 Points

Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina

Light red with a carmine rim. In the bouquet concentrated dried fruits, some VA, sweet spices and later also smoke and cassis. On the palate chocolate, sweet spices like cinnamon, coffee, toast aromas, soft tannin and quite much alcohol. The sweetness and acidity is a little out of balance in favor of the sweetness. But the latter makes sense, because the grapes are dried in the wind for three months.

Fairly light red with a carmine edge. The bouquet is a bit reticent, dusty, cherries and sweet spices. It has a juicy start with red fruits, sweet spices like cinnamon, some chocolate, earthiness, soft bitterness and elegant acidity. The tannin is firm and just a bit drying in the finish. Firm alcohol as well.

  • 2006 Montaribaldi Barbaresco Sorì Montaribaldi 89 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Fairly light carmine red. Some earthiness and mint. Pleasant acidity and firm tannin which is a bit drying. Good length. Is still a bit locked and needs a few more years of ageing. Until 2016? 89+
