Introduction

In general the formula here is that the host sets a theme and every participant brings a wine of the theme. The host puts a few extra on the table. We taste all wines blind, knowing our own wines. We first taste a little bit in a random order. Then we decide together in which order the wines will be tasted again and after that reveal which wine it is. In this group we do not use spittoons, so the number of bottles is limited. We don’t empty the bottles, but leave the leftovers for the host to taste again the next day, or take the bottle we brought home.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2000 Château Croizet-Bages 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

This domain finally found the way back up. This is the second good experience in the last few months. Pleasant bit of barnyard in the bouquet just after uncorking. Cassis and good oak as well. Dark cassis juice. Soft and round tannin and fresh acidity. An excellent wine. In its young maturity stage now, but surely can last for 3 - 5 more years.

  • 2001 Château Petit Village 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Luxurious wine. Good vanilla from the oak. Cassis. Silky soft but firm tannin. A little sweetness in the start. Firm amount of good bitterness. Very complete wine. Adolescent stage now and after decanting a real pleasure. No problem keeping this for another 5 years or so.

  • 1999 Château Pontet-Canet 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Deep and luxurious bouquet. Both in the bouquet and the taste good vanilla and something creamy. Red and black fruits. Earthy. Firm tannin and a slight bit of pleasant sweetness. Ok wine, but overall a little bit disappointing. Lacking a little body. Drink now or wait a few more years? I am not sure.

  • 2000 Château Pontet-Canet 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Elegant and luxurious bouquet with toasted oak. Full bodied. Good cassis. Soft tannin. Not so many notes, but this was way better than the 1999. Still youthful, but soft and pleasant already. Can last for a least another 5 - 8 years.
