France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Floral start with ripe peach throughout and some lemon peel notes middle to finish. Well textured with acidity and minerality and overall good freshness for its age.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From magnum. Summer flowers with ripe peach plus some lemon and orange peel. Dense and very long with an outstanding mineral character throughout. Superb.
We all wanted to enjoy this wine tonight, but impound almost nothing here- nothing outstanding but also nothing really bad. Some took that as a reason to like it for its longevity, but I can't agree.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru
One of the strangest wines I have ever tasted. Slightly madeirized ripe fruit aromas with a clearly sweet palate some thought tasted like birthday cake with buttercream icing. Unrecognizable as Burgundy. I wasn't thrilled here, some people hated it.
Nicely mature red cherry and berry throughout that starts with open/enchanting floral notes of a summer evening, finishes with more firm structure, with the concentration more than enough to maintain balance. No hurry to,drink these up.
Far surpassed my expectations. Earthy now with fully mature black fruit. More interesting flavors with good intensity, more fruit still lingering around and a charming semi-sweetness, much like the Chevillon 1978'NSG we had earlier in the day at lunch.
Best of the three Pousse d'Or 1989s tonight. Lush start with good spice , very good concentration. Nicely fresh for,it's age. Texturally clearly the most nuanced and interesting.
Ripe red and black cherry on nose and palate. Nicely fresh and well balanced for 1990's typical ripeness. Expanded with more time in glass. Holding nicely.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
From magnum. Very ripe and fully mature. More black than red fruit. Good spice, good density, but slightly lacking in energy, which makes this seem shorter than in the best vintages, and with a less complex finish. But perhaps my hopes were too high given last night's wonderful 1969.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Red and black fruit with faint earth and leather. Moderate structure makes this close to accessible and nicely balanced, even if in a lighter style than I'd typically expect from Gevrey Grand Cru.
Quite a novelty. Dark color, like old Sauternes. The goal was to pop and pour, but the cork fell into the bottle, so the decision was made to decant. I tasted this 6-7 minutes later at which point it had musty aromas and moderately interesting caramelized flavors. Five minutes later it was musty and vinegar-esque.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Ripe and fully mature red cherry and berry. Good concentration to start, seems to lose some steaming finishes with lots of sous bois and leather. Don't expect upside from here.

2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or Flawed

Drinkable, but clearly on a path toward oxidation.

1929 Jaffelin Corton
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Some people at my table liked this wine, but I didn't find it to taste or small like an old Burgundy, and generally found it barely interesting.

1929 C Marey & Liger-Belair Pommard
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard
Very dirty, barnyard aromas, but interesting woodsy and concentrated flavors for those few of us willing to adventure past the nose.

1976 Joseph Drouhin Pommard 1er Cru Les Épenots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Shows all 1976's challenges with very ripe fruit that is now fully mature with little energy, so seems well past its peak.

1989 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Far too earthy and dried out. Unlikely this is a correct bottle, given the performance tonight of the two other bottles of Other Pousse d'Or cuvées.
