Introduction

We were not told anything; just that it were two verticals.

  • 1994 Domaine Mondivin Villányi Sterntal

    Hungary, Dél-Pannónia, Villányi

    In the bouquet earth, mushrooms, figs and autumn impressions. Same on the palate. There is some sweetness, leather and ok acidity. Still drinkable, but it has been better. No score.

  • 1999 Domaine Mondivin Villányi Sterntal

    Hungary, Dél-Pannónia, Villányi

    In the bouquet earth, mushrooms, autumn impressions, clove and medicine. Same on the palate, firm acidity, some chocolate and fully melted tannin. Quite mature but still ok to drink. No score.

  • 2000 Domaine Mondivin Villányi Sterntal

    Hungary, Dél-Pannónia, Villányi

    In the bouquet mocha, soy, lovage and some chocolate. Same on the palate. Some figs. Ok acidity and completely melted tannin. Not really a pleasure. Too old and no score.

    In the bouquet red berries, herbs and autumn impressions. On the palate red berries, earth, iodine, some herbs, minerals, firm acidity and mild tannin with still some bite. In this flight with the 1994, 1999 and 2000, this is the first wine which I will score even though it is on the edge of becoming too old.

    Mature bouquet with earth, forest floor, cinnamon and laurel. On the palate chocolate, red currants, metal and juicy acidity. Beautiful and mature wine.

    Bouquet with red berries, plums, tea and chocolate. On the palate rose hips, chocolate, soy, caramel, green herbs, ok acidity and soft tannin. Special wine and ready now.

    Beautiful bouquet with sweet spices like cinnamon, cigar box, earth and autumn impressions. On the palate juicy red berries, sweet licorice, cinnamon, good acidity and soft tannin. Medium plus length. After the 1988 and 1998, the best so far. Ready now.

    In the bouquet forest fruits, herbs and sweet spices. On the palate raspberries, chocolate, rust, a touch of sweetness and also beautiful acidity and mild tannin. Beautiful wine and ready now. 90 - 91

    Beautiful bouquet with strawberry, herbs and spices, sweet licorice, chocolate, graphite, earth and some rustic flavors. On the palate strawberries, chocolate, metal, firm and good acidity and soft tannin. Good length.

    In the bouquet strawberries, cherry liquor, chocolate and cinnamon. On the palate quite intense with mild acidity and tannin. A touch of sweetness and bitterness in the finish. This wine can last for several years more.

    A sweet bouquet with some chocolate as well. On the palate chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, metal, good acidity and ripe tannin with still a good bite. Might improve a bit with some more cellaring. 89+
