  • 2015 Enate Chardonnay Somontano 234 87 Points

    Spain, Aragón, Somontano

Tasted blind. Drank from decanter over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of flowers, salty minerality, tropical melons, hints of lychee. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5% though!), medium+ body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of tropical melons, sweet cream, salty minerality, sslight lychees. Medium finish.
Now honestly this does not smell or taste like a Chardonnay at all! Fails in that regard. Seems to me like there could be a significant percentage of Gewurztraminer mixed into this.
Apparently a 100% Chardonnay from single vineyard.

  • 2010 T-Oinos Assyrtiko Clos Stegasta Flawed

    Greece, Aegean, Cyclades, Tinos

Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose increasingly oxidative with air. Still some underlying saline and rocky minerality with herbs.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body. Good saline and rocky minerality, but the premature oxidation may have killed most of the fruit.
Will try to get my hands on another bottle again in the future.

Poured into decanter and drank over 2 hours.
Appeaance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of smelly (good way) briny minerality, citrus lemon, roasted nuts. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of briny minerality, iodine, citrus lemon, honey, roasted nuts. Long finish.
Very good quality. Lovely minerality going on here. Only question is, could this bottle have undergone some accelerated ageing due to provenance? Somehow feels developed already.

There are nice traditional elements of tar & roses and red fruits here, yet mixed in with modern facets of licorice and sweet spice.

  • 2014 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

Tasted blind. Drank after 3 hours of air in the decanter.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tanned leather, animal, dark red cherries, black cherries, plums, peppers. Long finish.
Very good quality. Some real solid concentration here on the palate for a Beaujolais. This will age well. Aim to re-explore again in 3 years. Brett-haters should steer clear of this.
