This was a (mostly) champagne tasting that I put together, 12 people in attendance. Honestly, several bottles did not show as well as hoped. However, there were definitely some good bottles served. Everyone brought great food as always.

The last TWO bottles of this have been underwhelming. The bitterness that was blowing off on previous bottles is not blowing off now. One of the bottles at least had a decent champagne nose. After a lackluster showing at a wine tasting, I opened another bottle after going to the fair, and it was not any better. Clunky and uninteresting. I may be putting orange juice in my remaining bottles.

2004 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut 91 Points

Consistent with previous notes. This is my favorite domestic sparkler. This wine seemed quite acidic and lemony, with some beeswax and pear.

NV Camille Savès Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé 89 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
A nose of toast, yeast and brioche. The palate is dull and ends with a lot of sharp acid. The previous bottle a year ago was drinking better, although this was still alright.

2000 de Venoge Champagne Brut Sélect Cordon Bleu 89 Points

Oak and yeast on the nose. The nose is nice. The palate is clunky and unrefined. With time, this seemed to get worse.

Ok. Salinity and the palate wih a tinny somewhat metallic finish. Of the 6 bottles I purchased, there was great variability among bottles.

Consistent with last bottle. Nice well balanced champagne that is good for this price point.

2005 Duval-Leroy Champagne Premier Cru Authentis Le Clos des Bouveries Vertus 89 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Light flavored and chaulky. This seems to be a bigger style but in a restrained framework, which is odd. It is also slightly oxidative, which not a bad thing. Tasted a small pour over 45 minutes and then another small pour an hour later - both were similar.

2000 Duval-Leroy Champagne Femme de Champagne 91 Points
France, Champagne
Tasted a small pour over 45 minutes and then another small pour an hour later - both were similar. Complex, oxidized, rich but a bit elderly tasting. Nice, but a poor value at this price.

A small pour at a tasting. Drinking quite young. It tastes like a nicely made champagne, but it doesn't have a soul.
