Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 1971 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 96 Points

    France, Champagne

Stunning. Still incredibly young and fresh but yet supremely elegant. Young Dom's are so reductive it takes so long to get to this beautiful stage. Served before dinner and went down like a jug of cool aid at a 10 year old's birthday party. Joint WOTN for me. Just wished there was more to follow over dinner.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2002 Marc Colin et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

Lovely straw yellow color. Still very young and fresh and no signs of premox at all. Someone mentioned how oily this wine was maybe even like a batard. Maybe more to do with the 02 vintage but for me utterly elegant. 93 pts today among tough company but with upside.

  • 1990 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Absolutely singing. I thought it just entering that third stage of development which is where I really like my burgundy. Really nice spice, Voluptuous mouth feel and great length. True to terroir. joint WOTN.

  • 1989 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Stunning. Orange peel on the nose. Stems. Quite silky for an 89. At a great place right now and held without signs of decline. Great length. Dujac at its best but just eclipsed by the Hudelot Richebourg 90 tonight.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 1966 Château Palmer 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Wow. Still great and consistent with last tasting note. This was from an OWC from Mahler Besse but not reconditioned/recorked. Fill was top/mid shoulder and the top of the cork totally oxidised with the foil. None of that mattered. Perfectly mature. Leathery and bright red fruits. One of my favourite clarets.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2007 Domaine Arlaud Bonnes Mares 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

JP wanted a younger and easier wine to end with the cheese and this was perfect. For those who complain Burgundy is too expensive nowadays please try this wine. Primary but drinking really well. My only concern I seldom come across such an accessible young bones mare at under 10yrs of age. Clear upside.
