Smoke, lemon and kerosene.Has retained good acid and fruit that is starting to round out. Good spark to it. Will live some time but in a good spot now.
Slate, lemon, floral, spice and oak. Palate shows plenty of slate and minerality, with some sweet fruit as well. Good mix of fruit weight and acidity. Enjoyable now and should show well in the medium term.
Bottle 2. Less expressive on the nose, there is toast, caramel and lemon. The palate shows better acid balance and the fruit presents itself nicely. Drink now based on these two bottles.
Bottle 1. Expressive nose with floral, lemon, popcorn and musk. The palate has a slight oxidative twang to it that throws things off slightly. Still decent drinking.
From magnum. Candied lemon, chalk, stone fruit and minerals. Really good purity of fruit on the palate, this feels really sprightly. Taut and young, this should develop really well.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Disgorged 08/08/ Earth, raspberry and cranberry. Bright on the palate with good acidity. Medium length. Not all that much complexity but it is fresh and quite pleasant.
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
From magnum. Chocolate, cherry, floral notes, graphite, redcurrant and some herbs and stalk. The palate feels nicely bright, with fine tannins and crunchy acidity. Medium length. Did improve in the glass, showing a bit more depth. Good stuff.
From magnum. Smoke, cola and mint. The tannins here are quite dominant, gripping through the palate and cutting the fruit a little short. Perhaps just in an awkward stage but didn't really show me much pleasure tonight.
New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
Stalky, cherry, violet, raspberry and smoke. Quite clean on the palate, sweeps through with good acidity and nice tannin structure. Could benefit from a few more years in bottle.
Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Violets, cherry, earthy nose. The palate is earthy as well, with plenty of bright fruit flowing across it. Well balanced, this is ageing nicely and I'd like to see it again in 4-5 years.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
From magnum. Redcurrant, blackcurrant, cedar, light herbal and chocolate notes. Still plenty of youth evident on the palate, good drive and tannins throughout. In really good condition.
From magnum. Charcoal, stalk, herbs, asphalt and floral notes. Palate has good structure, with plenty of tannin as well as lean but savory fruit. I like the poise and balance of this wine.
